RCX Sex and Robotic Reproduction

Damn, I wish all my post titles could alliterate like that.

So, after all of our posts about how technology helps human reproduction, it's time for a post about how technology helps technological reproduction.

The inventive geniuses over at HackADay have built a robotic reproduction system using the Lego RCX brick. The robots use a basic bump-movement algorithm for navigation, and when their IR sensors line up, they exchange "genomes" and reproduce with a 1% mutation rate. Neat. Assuming you could throw this on some boards with more powerful processors, this could get really interesting.

Also in the news this week, a researcher in the UK is working on a self replicating 3d printer. It's a printer that prints... itself! Grey goo ahoy! =D
